Our Pastor
Alex Howell is the Lead Pastor of Vine Hill Church, which was planted on September 15, 2024. Born and raised in the Kansas City metro area, Alex grew up playing football and, in 2014, felt called by the Lord to return home from college to pursue ministry. Over the past decade, he has completed Bible classes through Global University, a year-long church planting residency, a six-month apprenticeship program, and served as both a Kids Director and Family Pastor.
In 2017, Alex married his wife, Karina Howell, who now serves as the Kids and Outreach Director at Vine Hill Church. Karina, a native of Mexico City, Mexico, moved to the United States in 2009. Over their eight years of marriage, the Lord has blessed them with three children: AJ, Nyah, and Camilah.
Together, Alex and Karina’s heart is to build a multi-ethnic, multi-generational, and Jesus-centered church in Kansas City.
Our Beliefs
The Bible
We believe the Bible to be the verbally inspired Word of God, without error in the original writings, and the supreme and final authority in doctrine and practice.
Jesus Christ
We believe the Lord Jesus Christ, the eternal Son of God, became man without ceasing to be God. He was conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary, so that he would reveal God, fulfill prophecy, and redeem sinful man. We believe he accomplished our redemption through his substitutionary sacrifice on the cross, his burial, and his bodily resurrection. We believe our redemption and salvation are guaranteed by his literal, physical resurrection from the dead and that he is the only means of salvation.
We believe that Jesus Christ is the visible image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation, the creator and sustainer of heaven and earth, and the head of the church. We believe the Lord Jesus Christ is now in heaven, exalted to the right hand of God, where, as high priest to his people, he serves as our advocate and intercedes for us.
The Holy Spirit
We believe the Holy Spirit is the eternal God, who indwells in all who believe in Jesus, at the moment of Salvation. The Holy Spirit baptizes believers into the body, seals them for salvation, regenerates them to new life, bestows spiritual gifts on each believer, and is fully present to empower and fill us for Christ-exalting ministry continually.
The Trinity
We believe there is only One True God, revealed in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, commonly known together as the Trinity.
Man
We believe mankind was created innocent and in the image and likeness of God, but mankind sinned, bringing both physical and spiritual death into the world. (Genesis 1:27; 2:17; 3:19). We believe that mankind’s sinful nature is rebellious toward God and his good design for life and worship. (Romans 1:20-24; Ephesians 2:1-3). Mankind’s rebellion causes confusion about good and evil, resulting in harm to people, ultimately leading to judgment, despair, and death.

We believe that God loves and pursues mankind despite our rebellion. (Romans 5:8) He offers forgiveness, healing, and abundant life to anyone who turns to him in humility.
Salvation
We believe salvation is a sovereign gift of God and is received by mankind through personal faith in Jesus Christ and his sacrifice for sin. We believe mankind is justified by grace through faith apart from works. (Acts 13:38-39; Romans 6:23; Ephesians 1:4-5; 2:8-10). We believe that Jesus Christ is the only means of salvation and that no one is saved apart from a conscious and personal decision to trust in Christ as his or her one and only Savior. (John 14:6; Acts 4:12; Romans 10:9-10). We believe all true believers, once saved, are kept secure in Christ forever.
Marriage
We believe that God ordained marriage as a lifelong union between one biological male and one biological female.

The Second Coming
We believe in the future, visible, and bodily return of Jesus Christ to the earth, commonly called the Second Coming, to rule the nations and establish his kingdom on earth.

Water Baptism
Following faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, the new convert is commanded by the Word of God to be baptized in water in the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit

Communion
A unique time of communion in the presence of God when the elements of bread and grape juice (the Body and Blood of the Lord Jesus Christ) are taken in remembrance of Jesus' sacrifice on the Cross

1. WHERE ARE YOU LOCATED AND WHEN DO YOU GATHER?
We meet Sundays at 11 AM at 6565 State Avenue, Kansas City, Kansas 66102. Every Sunday, our team transforms the space into a warm and inviting atmosphere for both adults and kids. Just look for the yellow Vine Hill flags and parking signs to find us!
2. WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?
At Vine Hill, you'll see everything from urban styles to casual fits and even business suits.
3. WHAT ARE YOUR WORSHIP GATHERINGS LIKE?
Our gatherings are all about creating a vibrant, welcoming atmosphere where you can truly connect with God. You’ll feel right at home as we worship together with a mix of contemporary Christian and gospel music. After that, you’ll hear powerful and life-impacting teaching.
4. WHAT WILL HAPPEN WHEN I VISIT FOR THE FIRST TIME?
As you enter, our greeters will welcome you at the Connection booth, where first-time guests can receive a FREE gift. You'll find signs introducing our vision and core values, along with free coffee and kids' check-in. Our team will direct you to the auditorium, where you can choose your seat as you enter!
5. WHAT DO YOU HAVE FOR KIDS?
We love our kids at Vine Hill! We’ve designed a fun and engaging experience for them through our VINE HILL KIDZ ministry. Kids will dive into worship and learn biblical principles in a way that’s relevant and exciting for their age group.
6. DO YOU HAVE A MID-WEEK WORSHIP GATHERING?
Right now, we don’t have a mid-week worship service. Instead, we focus on our Life Groups, which meet all over the KC Metro area. We believe spiritual growth thrives in community, so we encourage small group gatherings and authentic relationship-building.
7. WHAT IS A LIFE GROUP AND HOW CAN I JOIN ONE?
A Life Group is an intimate, recurring gathering of believers that meet in homes for fellowship, food, prayer, worship, and meaningful discussions about life and biblical teachings. These small groups are all about fostering spiritual growth and building strong relationships. We offer Life Group experiences for adults weekly throughout Kansas City.
